Full Professor (W2) Psychobiology of Chronic Pain
A person is being sought to fill a new endowed professorship in the psychobiology of chronic pain within the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics for a period of 5 years as soon as possible.
The professorship is to be dedicated to the psychological and neurobiological foundations of chronic, especially neuropathic pain. The aim is to better understand the subjective perception processes of those affected by chronic pain as a multimodal phenomenon, both on a psychological and on a neuronal level, and to examine how they can be modified. The focus of the professorship will be on research into effective and innovative (psycho-)therapeutic factors.
The Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics offers an excellent infrastructure with access to a 3T MRI research scanner, an fMRI-capable pain stimulator, other physiological measurement methods and EEG laboratory. In addition, there are collaborations within the framework of the IZKF-funded "Sodium channel network Aachen (SCNAachen)" and other projects, in particular the BMBF-funded Bio2Treat (BIOmetric and BIOlogical Data for Diagnosis and Therapy in Pain Patients) and thus with colleagues from, for example, physiology, neurology, dentistry, biology, anaesthesiology and palliative medicine. Further attractive collaborations exist with the engineering sciences at RWTH Aachen as well as with various disciplines at the Forschungszentrum Jülich via JARA-BRAIN.
The post holder should have a visible research profile in the field of psychological as well as neurobiological factors of chronic pain, which is proven by corresponding publications. The professorship may be associated with a senior medical position in the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics if a specialist qualification is available.
Interdisciplinary scientific co-operation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the research areas of RWTH Aachen University including, Profile Area Medical Science & Technology, SFB TRR 57, SFB TRR 219, SFB 1382, KFO 344, IRTG 2150, GRK 2375, PAK 961, CIOABCD, JARA, IZKF AACHEN, with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBMT) and with other technical disciplines are encouraged. In addition, an active commitment in the new medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”), as well as the new master program in clinical psychology and psychotherapy is also expected. German is necessary as a teaching language.
A specialist qualification in psychiatry and psychotherapy or psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy or a psychological/psychotherapeutic or comparable qualification is desirable. Furthermore, teaching skills are expected. Application materials should include evidence of teaching success and a teaching portfolio. Additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable.
According to a governmental resolution employment contracts will be based on partially fixed and variable pay agreements.
