The Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) is one of the leading research universities in Germany and a reform-oriented campus university uniquely offering the entire range of major scientific fields in one location. Dynamic interaction between disciplines and disciplinary cultures provides both researchers and students with special opportunities to collaborate in all areas.

The UK RUB is a group of qualified hospitals and specialized medical institutions in and around Bochum, Herne and East Westphalia-Lippe which all cooperate with the Ruhr-University Bochum. The UK RUB stands for hospital care at the highest level, as well as excellence in university research and teaching within the field of medicine.

The Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW in Bad Oeynhausen is seeking to recruit a:

UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR FOR NUCLEAR MEDICINE (ANALOG TO W3) (M/F/X) AS DIRECTOR OF THE INSTITUTE FOR RADIOLOGY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE AND MOLECULAR IMAGING

from 1 January 2025 (successor to: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang Burchert).

The Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW), located in Bad Oeynhausen, is a University Hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum and a national provider of maximum care in the treatment of cardiac, vascular and metabolic diseases. With a capacity of 500 beds and 30,000 patients per year, including 15,000 in-patients, our hospital is one of the leading university treatment centers in Germany. Five Clinics, plus multiple affiliated institutes and specialist centers, all under one roof, provide the best framework for patient care at the highest level. Our clinical infrastructure is complemented by ideal conditions for medical and translational research.

The structures at the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW facilitate a close exchange of expertise between Radiology/ Nuclear Medicine and the surgical and internal disciplines, anesthesiology and laboratory medicine. Multiple research cooperations exist with the Clinics, as well as the other institutes at the HDZ NRW. The Institute for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging is crucial to both patient care and cardiovascular research. Accordingly, it is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging devices such as one PET/CT, two MRI scanners (1.5T and 3T), one volume CT (320-row), 8 mobile X-ray units, 2 stationary X-ray units, 4 gamma cameras (including one SPECT/CT), and one ultrasound device. The radiopharmacy unit within the Institute, equipped with two cyclotrons and two GMP labs, has extensive experience in the manufacturing of radiopharmaceuticals for in-house nuclear medical examinations, as well as the commercial market. The HDZ NRW is approved to sell [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-HDZ). New and innovative radioactive tracers are available for clinical research purposes. In addition, the radiopharmaceutical work group participates in diverse basic research projects. For outpatients there is an ambulatory healthcare center (MVZ) for nuclear medicine, as well as an institution accreditation. A university outpatients clinic is in preparation and shortly before completion.

We have a permanent institutional research and teaching cooperation with the University of Bielefeld. Within the framework of this cooperation, there is currently, for example, a close exchange with the Faculty of Computer Science within the field of data science, including the option to use its computer cluster for AI issues. In addition, there are concrete plans in place at the University of Bielefeld to establish an animal experimental unit with preclinical imaging.
