Description

We are seeking a talented and driven Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the biological mechanisms driving pediatric low-grade glioma (pLGG) regrowth following MAPK inhibitor (MAPKi) withdrawal. This project will explore how changes in MAPK pathway activity and microglia recruitment contribute to tumor recurrence, using a combination of molecular biology, cell culture, and microenvironment-focused assays. The findings aim to inform improved treatment strategies and prevent relapse in young patients.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • develop and utilize in vitro and ex vivo models to study pLGG regrowth after MAPKi withdrawal. Assess MAPK pathway reactivation and downstream effects on tumor cell biology
  • investigate microglia recruitment and its contribution to tumor recurrence using co-culture systems and functional assays
  • integrate experimental results with bioinformatics workflows for comprehensive analysis
  • publish in high-impact international journals and present at major scientific conferences
  • supervise and mentor PhD, MD, MSc, and BSc students within the project

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • PhD in molecular biology, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, or related field
  • expertise in molecular and cellular biology methods (e.g., real-time PCR, Western blotting, immunostaining, microscopy)
  • experience in tumor–microenvironment studies, particularly microglia or immune cell biology, is desirable
  • familiarity with MAPK signaling or targeted therapy research is a plus
  • skills in bioinformatics (R, Python) are advantageous
  • experience with BSL-2 laboratory work preferred
  • experience with the scientific publication process necessary
  • excellent English communication skills, written and spoken
  • highly motivated, independent, and team-oriented

We offer you even more:

  • a stimulating research environment with a strong focus on translational pediatric neuro-oncology
  • the opportunity to explore tumor–microenvironment interactions in clinically relevant models
  • access to advanced cell culture systems, imaging platforms
  • support for career development, including teaching and habilitation opportunities
  • offer networking opportunities in national and international pediatric brain tumor research networks (e.g. Everest, Itcc, SIOPE BTG, PLGA coalition)
  • Classification is based on TV-L in pay grade E13 if the personal and collective agreement requirements are met.
