Description

We are offering an exciting PhD student position in the field of pediatric low-grade glioma (pLGG) to explore the complex cellular interactions between tumor cells and immune cells within the tumor microenvironment. The project will involve advanced in vitro co-culture systems, cell signaling analyses, and state-of-the-art cellular and molecular techniques to uncover how tumor–immune communication shapes tumor biology and therapy response.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • plan, perform, and analyze experiments on pLGG–immune cell interactions using primary and model cell systems
  •  apply complex cell culture techniques, including co-culture and 3D models
  • use molecular and biochemical methods (e.g., flow cytometry, Western blotting, qPCR, immunostaining) to study cell signaling and communication pathways
  • analyze, interpret, and present experimental data
  • collaborate closely with team members, contribute to publications, and present results at scientific meetings

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, molecular medicine, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related life science field
  • hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques
  • interest in tumor biology, immunology, and cell signaling
  • ability to plan, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently
  • data analysis skills; familiarity with statistical tools (R, GraphPad Prism, etc.) is an advantage
  • good communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Motivation, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset

We offer you even more:

  • a stimulating and supportive research environment within a leading pediatric neuro-oncology group
  • access to state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and advanced cell culture facilities
  • comprehensive supervision and mentoring for scientific and career development
  • networking opportunities such as access to the IZKF PhD program, and leading pediatric brain tumor networks (e.g. Everest, Itcc, SIOPE BTG, PLGA coalition)
