Project Coordinator / Data Steward in Clinical Research (f/m/x)

Your tasks

Data stewardship:

  • Develop data schemas for the standardised exchange of medical research data
  • Conceptualise and implement electronic data collection forms and advance existing processes for data collection and data curation
  • Providing support in consolidating/harmonising data
    and conceptualise the testing scenarios for assessing the data quality
  • Training and supporting researchers in implementing
    FAIR principles in research data management
  • Research work (data standards, data quality, etc.)
  • Extraction and preparation of data from clinical
    information systems for research projects
  • Writing metadata reports and developing data management plans

Project coordination and communication:

  • Managing collaborations between MeDIC, external,
    and internal stakeholders
  • Managing MeDIC's administrative processes and
    organisational procedures
  • Initiating and strategically managing projects to
    develop innovative digital IT solutions in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advancing existing processes for the provision of
    clinical data
  • Establishing data protection guidelines for secondary
    use of patient-sensitive data in clinical research, and
    further development of data standards
  • Working closely with clinical partners and the research teams at the Institute for Biomedical Informatics to refine project requirements, project objectives, and adapt project timelines
  • Collaborating and communicating effectively with
    researchers, clinicians, and the IT teams at the
    MeDIC and the University Hospital of Cologne
  • Planning and coordinating project work and public
    relations
  • Reporting on project milestones in a close collaboration with project partners
  • Scientific communication of project results at conferences and annual project meetings
  • Supervision of students and research assistants

Your profile

  • Holding PhD or MSc in natural sciences, biomedical
    sciences, healthcare, or bioinformatics/computer
    science
  • Published peer-reviewed work in national and/or
    international journals
  • Significant experience in classic project management
    – ideally in a research context
  • Knowledge of relational databases, data modeling
    and data standards
  • Conducted research leveraging medical data in a
    clinical and/or research context is of advantage
  • Knowledge of sensitive data management or
    willingness to learn more about this area
  • Very good organisational skills, analytical thinking,
    and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, excellent
    communication and teamwork skills, structured and
    reliable working style
  • Proficiency in German and English (both written and
    spoken)

The Institute for Biomedical Informatics (BI-K) and the
Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC) at the University
Hospital of Cologne are looking for a Project Coordinator /
Data Steward. In this responsible position, you will play a
key role in making routine medical data available for clinical research and in managing the development and
implementation of innovative IT solutions in healthcare. Your role focuses on advancing the digital transformation of the Medical Data Integration Centre by coordinating knowledge exchange on the intersection of research, IT, and clinical teams, managing national and international collaborations and making significant contributions to the further development of data-based medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne.
