Your tasks

As a doctoral researcher, you will work on a defined scientific project in the Brähler group, which is part of the Nephrolab Cologne. The project will be investigating SynNotch T cells as an innovative immunosuppressive T-cell based treatment strategy for autoimmune kidney disease. You will be responsible for planning and performing experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to scientific publications. You will also present your work at national and international conferences and actively contribute to the scientific life of the consortium.

Your profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular
    biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, medicine, or a related discipline
  • You are curious, creative, and highly motivated to pursue a scientific career in kidney research and immunology
  • Ideally, you have experience with experimental techniques such as molecular cloning, cell culture, cell transfection, viral transduction, flow cytometry, immunofluorescent staining, or mouse models, although strong candidates without prior specialization will also be considered
  • Given the project‘s strong focus on in vivo work, you should be willing to perform experiments involving living mice
  • You enjoy working in a team, communicate effectively in German and English, and are eager to engage with
    colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds
  • A structured and independent working style as well as a
    willingness to take responsibility for your project are
    expected

Your future in detail

The Clinic II for Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne offers a fully funded PhD position. Our group investigates T cell biology in the context of autoimmune kidney disease in order to identify novel treatment strategies. The project is embedded into the comprehensive infrastructural resources of the Nephrolab Cologne with access to state-ofthe- art facilities in the CECAD Excellence Cluster and the recently opened Center for Metabolism Research.
