Full Professor (W2) in Clinical Genomics

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research and medical care in the area of clinical human genetics at the Institute of Human Genetics (Chair: Prof. Dr. Ingo Kurth). The starting date is as soon as possible. We are looking for a person with many years of management experience in the field of clinical human genetics. Special expertise in the fields of syndromology and growth disorders, as well as neuromuscular and oncogenetic diseases is expected. The professorship is associated with the responsible organisation of the clinical-genetic outpatient clinic and the human genetics consultation service for all departments of the University Hospital.

The special ability for interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration in the structures of the Centre for Rare Diseases Aachen (ZSEA) and the Centre for Integrated Oncology (CIOABCD) is required. The latter includes the further development of interdisciplinary oncological project groups in the CIOABCD. The applicant should have a visible research profile in the field of clinical genetics and epigenetics, proven by relevant publications. The professorship should advance translational research on genetic alterations and their clinical manifestations and predispositions and promote precision medicine.

Interdisciplinary scientific co-operation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the research areas of the RWTH Aachen University including SFB TRR 57, SFB TRR 219, SFB 1382, KFO 344, IRTG 2150, GRK 2375, PAK 961, CIOABCD, JARA, IZKF AACHEN, with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBMT) and with other technical disciplines are encouraged. In addition, an active commitment in the new medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”), in the curriculum of dentistry and the master program “Biomedical Engineering” is expected.

An M.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable.  A specialist qualification in human genetics is also a prerequisite. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching and a teaching portfolio. German is necessary as a teaching language.

According to a governmental resolution employment contracts will be based on partially fixed and variable pay agreements.
